Welcome To The Stoughton Aqua Racers Web Site!

The Stoughton Aqua Racers swim club was formed over 20 years ago. The intent of the program is to help age level swimmers learn to swim in a competitive, but safe and fun environment. Any individual, ages 6 and up that can swim 25 yards of freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke is invited to try-out for the team. Meets are held approximately once a month during the fall/winter or spring/ summer seasons.

The Stoughton Aqua Racers is facilitated by an elected Administrative Board, which is comprised of parent volunteers from the membership of the club. The board meets once a month at the Stoughton High School Pool classroom. Meeting dates and times are available on the events calendar on the website. Interested parents are welcome to attend meetings; if you have specific topics you wish address you must contact the board president to be added to the agenda.

3 Mental Secrets

To swimming fast when it counts the most
By Dr. Alan Goldberg

With the Olympics having recently concluded, many people watching from home may have wondered, “How do the champions do it?” On the biggest stage of your life with the heat of competition cranked up high, what do you need to do to swim to your potential?

Once you get to the big meet, your physical work and preparation are over. You’ve done everything to insure that your body has the physical capability to go fast. Now what you need is to keep your mind in a “gold medal place.” Swimming fast when it counts the most is all mental. The following three strategies will help you maximize your training and go fast:

1. Keep your race focus on process, not outcome
2. Try softer, not harder
3. Stay calm pre-race
