Once you get to the big meet, your physical work and preparation are over. You’ve done everything to insure that your body has the physical capability to go fast. Now what you need is to keep your mind in a “gold medal place.” Swimming fast when it counts the most is all mental. The following three strategies will help you maximize your training and go fast: 1. Keep your race focus on process, not outcome 2. Try softer, not harder 3. Stay calm pre-race This is part of an article on page 11 of “SPLASH MAGAZINE”, September/ October 2008 issue. Check it out! My goal with STAR is to make sure the swimmers have correct strokes before they swim fast. I enjoy working with young swimmers and developing them into the swimmers they want to be. I love seeing progress, as it is a gift for me as well as the swimmer. I also would be thrilled to train any swimmer who has the goals to compete in the meets such as State, Speedo Championships or Nationals. My background includes a variety of aquatics related jobs including coaching. The following is a timeline of my experience: Aquatic Program Director – - Current Full time Aquatics Program Director in Stoughton since July 2003 - Previous Full time jobs at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool in Oak Harbor, WA (1992 – 2003) - Morale, Welfare and Recreation Pool Director in Rota, Spain (1988 – 1991) These jobs included teaching and supervising swim lessons, Life Guarding and supervising lifeguards along with coordination all aspects of each facility.
