My goal with the Stoughton Aqua Racers is to make sure the swimmers have correct strokes before they swim fast. I enjoy working with young swimmers and developing them into the swimmers they want to be. I love seeing progress, as it is a gift for me as well as the swimmer. I also would be thrilled to train any swimmer who has the goals to compete in the meets such as State, Speedo Championships or Nationals.

My background includes a variety of aquatics related jobs including coaching. To that end, we encourage swimmers to be at swim practice on a regular basis, as well as continue to be involved in activities other than swim. Youngsters should try a variety of activities as they grow-to find what they like and what they are good at, as well as to avoid becoming bored with—or “burned out”—at any one activity.

As children grow older, they will start making choices, and narrowing down activities which they want to continue with. They will also become capable of handling more time and training at an activity.

As coaches, we have recommended times per week which different age levels should practice. Keep in mind that these are RECOMMENDATIONS, and may vary with different ability and maturity levels, as well as personal family schedules. But we believe these are good recommendations, which will allow a child to develop to his full potential in the sport of swimming, while he continues to develop as a person.

RECOMMENDED PRACTICE TIMES PER WEEK

8 and under 2x/wk

9 yrs. 2-3x/wk depending on maturity/interest

10-11 yrs. 3x/wk

12 yrs 3-4x/wk depending on maturity/ability/interest

13 and over 4-5x/wk depending on goals they have for swimming, other activities they are involved in

OUT OF SEASON HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMERS

Need to swim minimum of 3x/wk to maintain conditioning, should swim 5x/wk if they wish to continue improving throughout their high school career.
